Description: 

Science is the study of many interconnected disciplines, including physics, chemistry, biology, Earth science, astronomy, and computer science. Science is creative, collaborative, and dynamic; is based on experience and evidence; and employs objective methods for observing, collecting, and analyzing data. Scientific knowledge is developed, refined, and extended as new evidence is uncovered. The study of science allows students to nurture curiosity, ask and answer questions, explore scientific and technological concepts, and acquire knowledge and understanding of the world.

Science 4 explores more complex structures to demonstrate how wheels and levels move things. Students will explore how light behaves in prisms and mirrors; and how shadows form. They will also investigate how light, temperature and water affect the growth of plants, and they’ll act to reduce waste and make our world a better place.

Description: 

Science 5 explores building simple electrical circuits and devices and learning about the connection between magnetism and electricity. By mixing different materials together, students will learn to recognize what dissolves and what reacts. Students will carry out field and classroom studies of wetlands, learning about organisms, interactions and human impacts that occur in ecosystems. Lastly, they will observe, describe and interpret weather phenomena and understand that weather and climate can be affected by human actions.

Description:

What should I do to keep my body healthy? Knowledge and Employability Science 10-4 students explore the digestive and circulatory systems of the human body. They investigate common chemicals used at home and in the workplace, and how to safely handle them. Students discover how force and heat energy are transferred in technologies they use in their daily lives, and they ask questions about how human activities affect the natural world.

In Knowledge and Employability Science 20-4, students gain an understanding of the applications of science skills and knowledge for success at home, at work and in the community. They investigate and classify simple chemical reactions; learn about energy conversions and conservation; and examine how social, environmental and genetic factors affect human health. They also apply their knowledge of moving objects and conservation of momentum to transportation safety.

The physics 20 course investigates the motion of objects and explains why they move. Physics 20 requires a strong math background as concepts are developed with corresponding equations that are used to solve problems.

When does a model or a theory need to change? Physics 30 students consider historical experiments and explore why the model of the atom has changed as a result of experiments and observations of natural phenomena. Students apply a quantitative approach to describe conservation of momentum in an isolated system, and they investigate applications and implications of electric and magnetic forces and fields.
